New Zealand Cricket (NZC), on Friday, October 9, confirmed that injuries have ruled Mark Chapman and Zak Foulkes out of the forthcoming five-match T20I series against India, which is scheduled to commence on Thursday, October 22.
All-rounder Mitchell Santner will lead the 16-man T20I squad for the action-packed five-game series. It’s worth noting that the batting all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, who dislocated his right shoulder during a promotional shoot last month, has already been ruled out of the T20I series. Meanwhile, Ben Sears was not considered as he continues to rehabilitate his ankle injury.
“While Chapman suffered a left hamstring tear during the European T20 league last month and is on track to be available for the ODIs against India, Foulkes injured his right hip flexor during a recent Canterbury Men’s training session, and his return-to-play timeline is still to be determined,” the NZC statement read.
“All-rounder Josh Clarkson and fast bowler Blair Tickner have been called in to the T20I squad to replace Chapman and Foulkes,” the statement added.
On the other hand, New Zealand head coach Rob Walter wished both players a smooth recovery and stated that the team is fortunate to have the expertise of Josh Clarkson and Blair Tickner.
“I’m gutted for Mark and Zak, and I wish them both a smooth recovery. We’re fortunate to be able to lean on the expertise of Josh and Blair. I know they’re both very excited to be involved in what’s shaping up to be an epic T20 series,” New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said.
