The legendary former West Indies all-rounder Sir Garry Sobers passed away on Friday, July 17, aged 89. His death was confirmed by his son, Daniel. Sobers played 93 Tests and one ODI between 1954 and 1974.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time, Sobers made his First-Class debut at 16 and his Test debut a year later, against England at Kingston. He captained the West Indies national team in 39 Tests between 1965 and 1972, winning nine, drawing 20, and losing 10.
He played 383 First-Class matches, amassing 28,314 runs with 86 centuries and 121 half-centuries at 54.87, and also took 1,043 wickets. He was also the first-ever batter to have hit six sixes in an over in FC cricket, for Nottinghamshire against Glamorgan in 1968.

Sobers racked 8032 runs and took 235 wickets in 93 Tests at 57.78 with 26 centuries and 30 half-centuries. He scored 365 not out against Pakistan in 1958, the record Test score that stood for 36 years. Moreover, he scalped 235 wickets in Test cricket.
