Indian captain Shreyas Iyer expressed disappointment over India’s poor bowling performances in the just-concluded five-match T20I series against the West Indies, highlighting the second and fourth T20I losses.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Iyer reckoned that the final series scoreline would have been different from 2-2 had his bowling unit performed better. However, he showered praise on his batters.
“[The result] could’ve been different if we’d bowled well in 2nd and 4th game. Batting has been sensational, execution we fell short. Credit where due, they batted phenomenally well. Kudos to Shai Hope, he was superb,” Iyer said at the post-match presentation.
India’s bowlers struggled to contain West Indies in the T20I series, with Arshdeep Singh taking five wickets at an economy of 10.94. Mayank Yadav and Axar Patel claimed four wickets each, while Prince Yadav picked up one, conceding at 9.12 runs per over.
Further, Iyer highlighted Team India’s key takeaway from the five-match series, noting that the team’s ability to bounce back from defeats and return to winning ways was a major positive. He also acknowledged the challenges that await India in the upcoming series against New Zealand.
“I think the ability to bounce back, even after a loss. We had this mindset that we want to get and play aggressive cricket and see to it that we are at the top of our game. And we replicated it in some instances, but we weren’t able to repeat it and be consistent throughout. But it’s a great learning and a lot of positives as well,” he added.
“Even today, the way we, you know, went about our batting, it was outstanding, and I hope that we keep repeating well, and it is going to be a challenging series in New Zealand now,” he concluded.
