Former Indian keeper-batter and commentator Dinesh Karthik has showered praise on the Indian selection committee for bringing back the veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the T20I side after a four-year gap.
Speaking on Bhuvi’s return, Karthik asserted that the veteran has earned his comeback through his consistent performances. Notably, Bhuvneshwar had two exceptional IPL seasons for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
“It’s taken four years to pick him back in that Indian team. Firstly, well done, selectors, to have the courage to pick someone. Team India in the last year, they have tried all pacers. But if you actually look purely at skill, Bhuvi has been exceptional,” Karthik said.
According to a report published by PTI, the former chief selector Ajit Agarkar didn’t look at the discarded pacer as he aimed towards the future of the team rather than revisiting the experienced options. However, with Agarkar’s exit from his role, Bhuvneshwar eventually got a chance to return.
Further, Karthik, who is currently the RCB mentor and batting coach, recalled discussions around the IPL mega auction and also wished the veteran pacer to enjoy the rest of the time that he plays in international cricket.
“I just genuinely wish he goes out there and enjoys the rest of the time that he plays international cricket. He deserves it purely on performance. When we were discussing for the mega auction, there was one name, Bhuvi, and you almost felt like you had to get him. The quality that he brings is brilliant. He can bowl with a new ball, swing it both ways, and then at the death, he can handle pressure,” Karthik concluded.
