Pakistan captain Babar Azam has opened up about his team’s crushing 194-run defeat to England, as they suffered a 0-2 Test series loss in the three-game series at Lord’s in London. The third and final Test will be played at Edgbaston in Birmingham, starting on Wednesday, September 9.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Babar slammed his batting unit for not creating an impact. Apart from Saud Shakeel, who scored 97 in the second innings, none of the Pakistan batters looked in control.
“I think we won the toss and then we are bowling first, so we are trying to utilize the conditions because of overcast. So we utilize and we take early wickets and I think we take them to 290. Then in the batting we are not up to the mark. Then second innings again we bowling first and I think the way Pakistan bowling, outstanding spell. (Abbas) Took five wickets and then batting again collapsed. So I think the way Saud playing, he’s showing class and dedication and it was tremendous,” Babar Azam said after the game.
“We just follow our plans and just even both sides, bowling and batting, we just follow our plans and build a partnership in both sides. But unfortunately they have built a partnership in the batting. I think all credit to England,” he added.
Additionally, Babar has showered praise on the Pakistan pacer Mohammad Abbas, who scalped a nine-wicket match haul, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings. However, he assured that his team would do better in the third and final Test in Birmingham.
“Abbas in Lord’s, especially to take five wickets, I think it’s a memorable moment for him. To be honest, we’re trying to do our best more in both sides, batting and bowling, because we have an opportunity but we did not grab it properly. We just sniffed a little bit in the batting and bowling, so we’re trying to do better in last match,” he concluded.
