Former Indian spinner Karn Sharma has shared his views on the former Indian captain MS Dhoni’s sudden Test retirement during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2014-15 tour Down Under in Australia.
Karn, who recently announced his retirement across all forms of the game, strolled down memory lane to recall how Dhoni called everyone for a regular team meeting and announced the shock decision.
For the unversed, Dhoni announced his Test retirement after the third Test of the four-match series. Speaking in an exclusive conversation with Revsportz, Karn Sharma asserted that Dhoni decides what he feels is best for him.
“None of us knew that he would retire. He called a team meeting, and we thought it was a normal meeting, but he announced his retirement. Everyone knows that nobody will know what is going on in his mind. He makes decisions that he feels are best for him,” Karn Sharma said on Revsportz.
Karn Sharma, who was with the Chennai Super Kings from IPL 2018 to IPL 2021, also revealed that Dhoni used to scold him. However, he added that we cannot predict what exactly is going on in his mind despite spending a good amount of time with Dhoni.
“I have been scolded by him, and if it is beneficial for the team, then it is okay. He has scolded me too, but still you cannot predict what goes on in his mind. I have played with him for four years. Everything was good, but predicting him is not easy,” he added.
“The emotional aspect came out after we won, and Dhoni also said that when we did not play for two years, our followers increased instead of decreasing. So you get to know how much people like CSK. We were called the daddies army and all that, but we just wanted to put in our best effort. I think even in T20 cricket you need that experience and a mix of seniors and juniors. Only those who have the experience can survive tense situations,” he concluded.
