Former Indian fielding coach R Sridhar has made a massive revelation about former Indian captain Rohit Sharma, stating that he was similar to Virat Kohli in terms of aggression and intensity on the field.
Speaking on former CSK batter Subramaniam Badrinath’s YouTube channel, the ex-Indian fielding coach asserted that Rohit had the same intensity and keenness as Virat Kohli but just did things differently.
“Rohit was similar to Virat. Many people would assume, looking at Rohit, that he doesn’t have the intensity or is too laid-back. That’s completely wrong. He had the same intensity and keenness as Virat but just did things differently. It was important to know the person more than the player, as each one was different,” Sridhar said on Badrinath’s YouTube channel.
“He was a player who needed to be pushed and had to always be challenged. You had to match his intensity as a coach in a fielding drill or throwdown. He always wanted to be challenged and used to hate comfort-zone practice. Everything had to be outside the comfort zone for him,” he added.
It’s important to note that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from T20I cricket on June 29, 2024, after winning the T20 World Cup. The duo later retired from Test cricket in May 2025 ahead of the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
Further, Sridhar termed Ravichandran Ashwin extremely curious about the sport. Notably, Ashwin concluded his career as India’s second-leading wicket-taker with 765 scalps. He announced his international retirement during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
“Someone like Ashwin was extremely curious and would ask questions about everything. Once he had the answers to it all, he would be happy,” Sridhar concluded.
