Australian ace pacer Josh Hazlewood, who scalped a six-wicket haul on Day 3 of the ongoing Test against Bangladesh, breached the 300 Test wickets milestone. Notably, Hazlewood reached the milestone after picking up Mehidy Hasan’s wicket.
With this milestone, Hazlewood emerged as the ninth Australian bowler to do so. Speaking to Kayo Sports after reaching his milestone, Hazlewood stated that he doesn’t really think about these milestones.
“You don’t really think about those sorts of milestones when you’re playing. I guess it’s probably something you look back on at the end. But I guess just to see the other names there, and I’m playing with three of them, so yeah, it’s pretty cool,” Josh Hazlewood told Kayo Sports.
Hazlewood, who made his Test debut against India in 2014, racked up 93 Test wickets in 2015 and 2016 combined. Over the last ten years, the ace pacer has picked up 199 more Test wickets.
Delving into the details of the ongoing Test, Hazlewood’s six-wicket haul was also his first fifer in nine years. Bangladesh posted a total of 426 runs in their first innings, in response to Australia’s 198 runs. At stumps on Day 3, the hosts scored 161/4 in 53 overs, still trailing by 67 runs.
“They hung in there tough. Yeah, it’s pretty hard work out there on that track. We probably stuck it out, we didn’t let the runs flow too quickly there at the end. It was just that Bangladesh hung in there nice and tough, and it was tough to get wickets out there, so it was a good effort,” Hazlewood concluded.
