“It's not to be shared” - Rohit Sharma opens up on his unique century celebration in 2nd ODI vs WI

Talismanic Indian opener Rohit Sharma has disclosed that the veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja told him how he should have celebrated his century in the second ODI against the West Indies on Wednesday, September 30.

In the 406-run chase, Rohit forged a 255-run stand for the opening wicket with captain Shubman Gill as India crossed the winning line in 43.3 overs with eight wickets in hand to take a 2-0 lead in the three-game series.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rohit revealed that Jadeja wanted him to slide and jump as part of his century celebration. However, Rohit decided to do a small high-knee jog for a few seconds.

“Yeah, he (Jadeja) was asking me what that was about (his celebration). I said I’ll tell you in the dressing room. It’s for me. But he was quite innovative. He wanted me to come and slide and jump, and that’s how he wanted me to celebrate. I said, ‘Man, after 50 overs of fielding and batting for almost 25-30 overs, I was never going to do that,’” Rohit said after the game.

“I keep that celebration for myself. Ah, it’s for me. It’s for me. Some things are just meant to be with you. It’s not to be shared. So yeah, that was for me,” he added.

Additionally, Rohit delved into the details of the challenges of batting after spending 50 overs on the field. He went on to add that he brought his experience of playing for the national team for so many years and doesn’t want to give it up easily.

“Yeah, again, that comes down to concentration. You’ve got to keep telling yourself that you do not throw it away, because the conditions are challenging, but that’s where I wanted to just bring my experience of playing for so many years. You just don’t want to give it that easily; try and stay as much as possible in the game, and we knew that the pitch was good, and we needed big runs from the top order, and that’s exactly what happened,” he concluded.
