IPL 2027: CSK announces Gareth Batty as assistant coach

IPL 2027: CSK announces Gareth Batty as assistant coach

Chennai Super Kings, on Monday, October 26, announced former England spinner Gareth Batty as assistant coach for the upcoming IPL 2027 season, confirming Michael Hussey’s departure after eight years as their batting coach.

Ahead of IPL 2027, CSK made several changes to their coaching staff, including roping in Zaheer Khan as Stephen Fleming’s replacement as the head coach. Interestingly, Hussey played for CSK for six seasons before joining the coaching staff at CSK in 2018.

Batty spent five years as Surrey head coach, guiding the county side to three consecutive County Championship titles from 2022 to 2024. He also represented Surrey in over 350 matches across formats, claiming more than 500 wickets.

During Batty’s coaching tenure, Surrey became the first team in nearly 60 years to win three successive championships and finished runners-up in 2025.

“Thank you hardly seems enough for all that Surrey has meant to me. It has been a privilege to serve this great club, to share in its success and challenges. The new journey is a very exciting one for my family and I with CSK in the IPL and I’m looking forward to getting going. I would like to make a special thank you for Stewie, he has been there throughout – thank you for the memories and your belief in me, boss. “Clubs are built on more than results and trophies, they are built on people, loyalty and a shared sense of purpose and I look forward to my third chapter as a fan. Thank you,” Batty said in Surrey’s media release.

Batty’s move to CSK comes after his recent involvement in franchise cricket. He served as an assistant coach at Oval Invincibles during their title-winning campaign in The Hundred 2025 season before joining MI London.
