“I never chased the Indian jersey” - Bhuvneshwar Kumar opens up on his India comeback

Veteran Indian seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has clarified that he is currently in a space where he doesn’t have expectations of himself, and that is how things have worked out for him in the last four years.

Notably, Bhuvneshwar endured two tough outings on his comeback tour in the ongoing New Zealand T20I series, scalping only one wicket in eight overs. Speaking to BCCI.TV, the seamer revealed that he never chased the Indian jersey.

“I am currently in a space where I don’t have expectations from myself, and that’s how things have worked out for me in the last 3-4 years,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar said on bcci.tv.

“We normally talk about the present, rather than focusing on the future. I didn’t play for the country, but the things I did and the maturity that has come in me as a person have taught me to stay in the present. I never chased the Indian jersey. When I played in the last two IPL seasons, I never had any expectations. It wasn’t like I went into the season underprepared. I worked hard on my fitness, mental aspect and skills,” he added.

Further, Bhuvneshwar concluded by stating that the Impact Player rule has encouraged batters to adopt a more aggressive approach from the outset. He added that while bowlers are often viewed as being at a disadvantage, they still have the ability to dictate the course of a game.

“The mindset of the batters has opened up a lot after the impact player rule, and they tend to go after the bowlers from the first ball. Bowlers are seen as victims, but that is not the case, as the bowlers can control the game,” he concluded.
