On Thursday, October 22, England skipper Harry Brook broke Shubman Gill’s record for the fastest ODI double century, reaching the milestone off just 114 deliveries during the ongoing Tri-Series clash against Sri Lanka at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Brook smashed a sensational double century, scoring 202 off 116 deliveries, with 21 fours and 10 sixes. Coming in at No. 4 in the 17th over, Brook was dismissed by Janith Liyanage off the final ball of the innings, having powered England to a massive total of 429/4 in 50 overs.
With this knock, Brook became the first England batter to register a double century in ODI cricket. His 114-ball effort also surpassed Shubman Gill’s record of 117 balls, set less than a month ago against the West Indies in Guwahati, where the Indian captain scored an unbeaten 223 off 133 deliveries.
Gill had previously broken Ishan Kishan’s record for the fastest ODI double century, achieved in 126 balls against Bangladesh in 2022. Brook’s remarkable effort has now pushed Gill to second place on the list.
Kishan’s 126-ball double century ranks third, followed by Glenn Maxwell’s unbeaten 201 off 128 balls against Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup. Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka occupies fifth place with his 136-ball double century against Afghanistan in 2024, while Chris Gayle’s 138-ball knock against Zimbabwe in 2015 completes the top six.
