According to a report published on Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has tried to obtain feedback from the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises on the much-debated Impact Player rule.
All 10 franchises have to give their final feedback by Monday, August 31. It’s important to note that the main drawback of the Impact Player rule is that it reduces the value of genuine all-rounders and enhances the run-scoring.
The BCCI has also sought the franchises’ feedback on other issues including PMOA matters, umpiring, practice sessions and playing conditions. For the unversed, ahead of the IPL 2026 season at the Captains’ meeting, a lot of captains opposed the idea of the Impact Player rule.
“As discussed in the IPL 2026 Captains’ Meeting, it was agreed that feedback would be collected from all franchises at the conclusion of the tournament on key cricket operations matters. Accordingly, we request you to discuss the following areas with your Cricket Operations teams and share your consolidated feedback with us,” the BCCI/IPL mail noted.
“Kindly ensure that your feedback reaches us by 31 August. This will help us compile inputs from all franchises and take forward the necessary review and action points ahead of the next season. We look forward to your response within the stipulated timeline,” the communique further stated.
The Impact Player rule allows teams to name five substitute players in addition to their playing XI before a match. After the match starts, captains of both teams can nominate any one of these five substitutes to replace one of the players in the starting XI during the course of the game.
