BCCI announces updated Test squad for SL tour; Sarfaraz Khan returns

(BCCI), on Sunday, August 9, announced the Mumbai-born middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan as a replacement for Sai Sudharsan

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Sunday, August 9, announced the Mumbai-born middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan as a replacement for Sai Sudharsan, who has been ruled out of the two-Test tour of Sri Lanka.

It’s worth noting that the Chennai-born left-handed batter has been recovering from a right toe stress reaction at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE). Sudharsan has racked up 383 runs from seven Tests at an average of 31.91, with three half-centuries so far, since making his Test debut against England at Leeds in June 2025.

On the other hand, Sarfaraz has played six Tests for India so far, with his most recent Test coming in the 2024 home series against New Zealand. Sarfaraz had an excellent Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season, racking up 429 runs from nine innings at an average of 53.62.

“Sai Sudharsan has been ruled out of the Test series against Sri Lanka. The left-handed batter, who has been at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru, has made significant progress in his recovery from the right toe stress reaction and is recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring his progress,” the BCCI official statement read.
