Former Indian spinner Amit Mishra strolled down memory lane to recall a heated incident involving Gautam Gambhir during their playing days. Notably, the duo were involved in a heated exchange and exchanged a few words during one of the domestic games in their playing days.
Speaking on a podcast with former India cricketer Aakash Chopra, Mishra revealed that he had a war of words with Gambhir during a domestic game. However, Mishra also disclosed that Gambhir called him after the game and invited him for dinner.
“There was a game between Delhi and Haryana. I got one player out. Before that, he played a cross shot, and Gautam was batting at the other end. We spoke a bit in between, and I told him to be quiet. I asked him what is your problem if I am getting a few wickets. He told me to shut up and bowl. I got angry, and we exchanged words,” Mishra said.
“After the match was over, we went to the hotel, and I went to eat. Gambhir called me and asked what I was doing. I told him nothing. He asked to go for dinner. I was like you were fighting just a while back. I was also angry, so I told him I had already eaten. He then told me not to get angry and said let’s go for cold coffee,” he added.
“So he is like that on the ground, but if you are his friend, he will come to you later. People think he is like that, but it is actually not like that,” he noted.
Further, Mishra praised Gambhir for remaining grounded despite coming from a well-to-do family, recalling how the former India opener would accompany him to practice in his Alto despite owning a BMW.
“Gautam had one good thing in him. He never showed that he was from a well-to-do family. That is why he is my friend. My first car was an Alto, and he sat in it with me. He used to have a BMW, but he would come with me in my Alto for practice. He never let me or anyone feel that he was from a well-to-do family,” he concluded.
