India will be hosting the West Indies for three ODIs and five T20Is in September-October 2026. The West Indies had previously visited India for two tests this year and now will play a white-ball series. The first T20I will be played in Lucknow on October 6; the second T20I will be played on October 9 in Ranchi, and the third T20I will be played on October 11 in Indore. The last two T20Is will be played on October 14 and October 17 in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, respectively.
The BCCI has announced the T20I squad for the five matches, and the combination is more or less the first choice, barring the bowling combination. So today, we check out the five Indian players to watch out for in the T20I series.

- Tilak Varma
Tilak Varma’s T20I record is excellent with 1665 runs in 62 games, at a strike rate of 144.03, including 2 centuries and 9 fifties, with the best score of 120*. However, his bat has been silent for the last few games in the format. He has been batting in the middle order and taking on the pacers in near-death overs. This series might give him a chance to bat up the order and score some big runs and justify his place in the India XI.
- Nitish Kumar Reddy
Nitish Kumar Reddy was withdrawn from the Asian Games 2026 squad for the West Indies series. He was amazing against Afghanistan, taking 6 wickets in two games and bowling very well. He didn’t get a chance to showcase his batting might, but the West Indies T20Is might be a perfect chance for Indian team management to have Reddy bat up the order and give him a chance to prove himself.
- Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav was not chosen for the UK tour or for Ireland and England, playing his last T20I game against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2026. He is just 5 wickets short of 100 scalps in the T20I format. He has 95 wickets at an economy of 6.95 with the best bowling figures of 5/17. Kuldeep Yadav will want to show that he still has the ability to be a first-choice pick in T20Is regardless of conditions and pitches.
- Mayank Yadav
Mayank Yadav impressed on his return to the Indian team against Zimbabwe. He picked five wickets in the three T20Is and bowled at the speed of light. He missed a lot of time due to his back injury, and his return in the IPL 2026 was also not a good one, going wicketless in four games he played. However, he showed patience and spent time at the CoE working on his comeback and has shown he can sustain the workload.
- Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer has recovered from a tough first tour as India T20I captain, losing consecutive series against Ireland and England. He recovered to defeat Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. His bat has, however, been a bit quiet, with 359 runs in 13 T20Is with two fifties, with a best score of 80* and a strike rate of 143.60. The T20I series against West Indies will be a huge chance for Shreyas Iyer to lead from the front with the bat as well.
