“He has 18 first-class hundreds” - Wasim Jaffer feels Sarfaraz Khan is sidelined for non-cricketing reasons

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has asserted that the Indian middle-order Test batter Sarfaraz Khan has been constantly sidelined by the Indian selectors due to non-cricketing reasons.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Jaffer revealed that the Mumbai batter has been sidelined despite putting up consistent performances in domestic cricket. Notably, Sarfaraz last played for India in the home Test series against New Zealand in 2024.

“I feel there is definitely something. I feel that they don’t want to pick him. Otherwise, the performance is in front of us. He has 18 first-class hundreds in such a small career. I feel they don’t want to take him. I don’t know the reason, but I think it’s beyond performance and cricketing reasons,” Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.

“I just feel that they don’t want to pick Sarfaraz Khan, irrespective of how many runs he scores and what his average is. There can be nothing else apart from this,” Jaffer added.

Sarfaraz has amassed 371 runs in 11 innings at an average of 37.10 in Tests. Interestingly, Sarfaraz was included for the two-match away series against Sri Lanka in August 2026 as an injury replacement for Sai Sudharsan but couldn’t get to the playing XI.

Sarfaraz Khan endured a disappointing outing in Mumbai’s opening match of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season, scoring just one run against Chandigarh. However, he bounced back strongly in the second round against Himachal Pradesh, smashing 154 off 228 deliveries while batting at No. 5. His crucial knock helped Mumbai secure a commanding innings-and-97-run victory.
