India will be hosting the West Indies for three ODIs and three T20Is in September-October 2026. The West Indies had previously visited India for two tests this year and now will play a white-ball series. The first ODI will be played in Trivandrum on September 27; the second ODI will be played on September 30 in Guwahati, and the third ODI on October 3 in New Chandigarh.
The West Indies will be very interested in doing well and possibly winning the ODI series to qualify directly for the ICC World Cup 2027. And for that, their batters will have to step up and put on big scores to challenge the star-studded Indian lineup. Today, we will see three Windies batters to keep an eye on.
Here are the 3 West Indies batters who could pose a threat to India in the ODI series:
- Sherfane Rutherford
Sherfane Rutherford has become a cornerstone for the West Indies middle order in the ODI format. He has played 56 ODIs, scoring 902 runs with six fifties at an average of 24.37. He is yet to play an ODI against India but has ample experience playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has played 31 IPL games, scoring 520 runs at a strike rate of 142.85. He is a good player of spin and will be tasked with countering the likes of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja on turning tracks.
- Amir Jangoo
Amir Jangoo might be a newbie in ODIs, with 228 runs in 9 games, but has hit one century and one fifty so far. In fact, his century came in his debut ODI game against Bangladesh. Jangoo is a left-handed batter in the middle order and a keeper. He has also played 5 Tests and 7 T20Is as well for the West Indies and has only just begun cementing his spot in the XI. However, Jangoo is rated highly by West Indies veterans, and though it will be his first time in India, expect the southpaw to trouble Indian bowlers.
- Shai Hope
Shai Hope is the captain and first-choice wicketkeeper of the West Indies team. He is also their best batter across formats, and his numbers reveal why. He has played 155 ODIs, scoring 6312 runs with 19 centuries and 32 fifties at an average of 50.09 and a best score of 170. Hope will open the innings for Windies, and with India having a second-string pace attack, he will want to dominate the proceedings and give an advantage to his team.
