Former Indian pacer and commentator Vivek Razdan has showered praise on the teen batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who recently made his T20I debut on the England tour. Notably, Sooryavanshi became India’s youngest-ever international cricketer when he made his T20I debut at age 15 years and 99 days.
Speaking to a select group of reporters on Sony Sports Network ahead of India’s first T20I against Afghanistan, the former Indian cricketer reckoned that it’s tough to stop exposing the 15-year-old batter since he has already played in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“You cannot really escape exposing him because he has already played in the IPL. It is not as if you are rushing him too soon. He has already done something remarkable. Everyone needs to understand that miracles are not made; they are born. We have seen such miracles in cricket before, and Vaibhav is one of them,” Razdan told select media.
Delving into the records of Sooryavanshi in the recent IPL season, he took only 440 balls to reach his 1000-run milestone, becoming the fastest to reach the landmark. He also smashed 72 sixes in the campaign, the most by any batter in an IPL season.
“T20 cricket is a different kind of game. He has had a fantastic first year, but moving forward, the challenge will be how he can repeat those performances year after year. That is what will take him, both as a player and as a cricketer, to another level,” Razdan added.
“So now the challenge is how to handle him. We have seen him being brought into the field in international matches, and I feel a little more patience can be shown with him,” Razdan concluded.
