Former England cricketer and commentator Geoffrey Boycott has named Indian veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as his favourite modern-day cricketer, thanks to his excellence in all three facets of the game.
During a conversation on the Stick to Cricket podcast, Michael Vaughan asked Boycott to name his favourite modern-day cricketer, with Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Joe Root being the options offered.
However, Boycott surprised Vaughan with his answer as, according to him, Jadeja is the definition of a complete all-rounder. He also recalled the first time he met the veteran all-rounder when he recently visited India.
“Jadeja? Oh, I love Jadeja as well. He bowls beautifully, his fielding is electric, and he can bat too. He gets his head down and can bat properly. And he’s a handsome so-and-so,” Boycott said on the Stick to Cricket podcast.
“I met him for the first time recently when I went to India, was it last year? I remember just watching him and thinking, definitely, I love him. He’s very handsome, isn’t he? A nice lad, yeah, and just a good cricketer, isn’t he? A proper all-round cricketer,” Boycott added.
Speaking about Jadeja’s Test record, in 91 games, he has accumulated 4160 runs, including six centuries and 28 half-centuries, scalping 356 wickets. During India’s 2025 Test tour of England, Jadeja scored five consecutive half-centuries and amassed 517 runs.
While Jadeja remains a key player in India’s journey in the ongoing WTC cycle, his place in the current ODI team has been uncertain due to the emergence of players like Axar Patel and Washington Sundar. Interestingly, no final call has been taken on Jadeja’s ODI future yet, with the next ODI World Cup scheduled for next year.
