Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter and commentator Subramaniam Badrinath has slammed the Indian team management, headed by Gautam Gambhir, for rushing the ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah for the England ODI series.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Badrinath has asserted that with India having three Tests before the World Test Championship (WTC) final, Bumrah should have directly played the two-Test tour of Sri Lanka instead of the three-match England ODI series.
Notably, Bumrah developed a swelling in his left knee during the England ODI series, and he was subsequently ruled out of the third and final ODI. While he was named for the Sri Lankan tour, he was later deemed unfit to play for the two-match series.
Subramaniam Badrinath Breaks Silence:
“I don’t know who made the decision (To bring Bumrah back for England ODIs). COE will not make the selection, right? They will just say he is in this state and can play these matches and his body is in this state. But I think the captain, coach, and selectors are taking the decision. COE only passes the information. They are not selectors,” Badrinath said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Furthermore, Tamil Nadu cricketers Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar have also been ruled out of the two-match series, which is scheduled to start on Saturday, August 15, in Galle. He also advised Sundar to work on his fitness.
“I don’t have an immediate answer to the root cause of so many injuries. It is important to see what kind of injuries these are. At high-level professional sport, injuries are common. Sai Sudharsan got hit by a ball, with Bumah. It is a chronic injury because of being overused and fitness is not Sundar’s forte, he is injury-prone. His fitness needs a lot of work. Management and monitoring is very important. Injuries are bound to happen, and you cannot control it,” he said.
