The recent T20I series between England and India has exposed several concerns for the Indian team. Despite the sea of talent that India possesses, they weren’t able to win a single T20I out of four games they played.
India lost the top spot in the ICC T20I rankings as a result of the loss, underscoring the necessity of reevaluating the squad’s makeup. Hence, today we take a look at 3 players who India needs to get rid of in the T20I squad.
Here are the 3 players who should be axed from the Indian T20I team:
- Suryansh Shedge
Suryansh Shedge was called in as a replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy and made his India T20I debut in Ireland. However, he managed a combined 8 runs and failed to pick a wicket in the two T20Is he played against Ireland and England.
He also went for 39 runs in his 3 overs against England. Shedge is a good young prospect but not yet ready for the international stage as of now. He needs more polishing and spending time with senior players to know what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
- Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar is a curious case. He is one of the few all-format players for India in recent times but is seldom used for his bowling in the IPL and other formats. He played one T20I each against Ireland and England and made 9 and 5 and failed to pick a wicket with the ball.
However, he still manages to win the confidence of Indian team management without any considerable contribution. He is decent in tests but is overpromoted in ODIs and not suitable for T20Is, given his limited abilities. However, India needs to explore other players as well for the role of right-arm off-spin all-rounders.
- Prasidh Krishna
Prasidh Krishna somehow keeps getting picked in India’s T20I squad despite taking 9 wickets in 8 games at an economy of 11. Even his T20 economy is 8.79 for 123 wickets in 112 games. He has had success in Tests and ODIs, but T20Is have not been kind to Prasidh Krishna.
He recently gave away 57 runs in a T20I against Ireland, and even against England in the two games he played, he gave away 26 and 38 runs while taking only one wicket. With an amazing crop of pace bowlers coming up thanks to the IPL, India has more options to choose from than Prasidh Krishna.
